A networking PWA for film festivals: scan a badge to connect, see who is around you on a live map, book meetings and keep every contact you made in Cannes, Berlin or Tokyo.
Festivals and Events is the companion app for the people who actually make a festival: producers, sales agents, programmers, journalists. A Progressive Web App installed from the browser in ten seconds, no store, no password — a magic link by email and you are in.
What it does
- Personal QR badge — scan someone's badge, they scan yours, and the connection is mutual. No business cards lost in a hotel room.
- Live map — see nearby attendees who have opted in, with positions kept in Redis for a few minutes only, then forgotten.
- Programme — every edition's screenings, parties and side events, as a list or on a map, filtered by day.
- Agenda and meetings — propose a slot, accept, decline; the agenda gathers your screenings and meetings in one timeline.
- Connections — every person you met, tagged with the festival where you met them, searchable forever.
- Editions — Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, Tokyo… each festival has its own space, its own programme, its own map.
Under the hood
Next.js PWA, Laravel API, Redis for live positions, geolocation on the device, French and English. Works offline once installed, which matters in a Palais with no signal.
In numbers
At a demo edition of the Festival de Cannes, one attendee leaves with 19 connections — Netflix Iberia, Berlinale Talents, Arte France, Globo Filmes, ZDF — a week of meetings in the agenda and every screening of the official selection on the map.
The context
A festival week is a blur of screenings, parties and twenty-second conversations. The people you meet matter for years, but their cards end up in a drawer. We wanted a tool that lives in the pocket, needs no download and makes a contact mutual and durable in one gesture.
The build
The app is a PWA: a magic link by email, an install prompt, and it runs offline. Each attendee carries a QR badge; scanning is mutual and both parties keep the contact, tagged with the edition. A live map shows nearby attendees who opted in, positions stored in Redis with a short time-to-live. The programme of each edition is a list and a map filtered by day; meetings are proposed and accepted inside the app and land in a unified agenda. Built with Next.js on the studio's Laravel API, in French and English.
The results
At a demo Festival de Cannes edition, an attendee ends the week with 19 connections across Netflix Iberia, Berlinale Talents, Arte France, Globo Filmes and ZDF, a full agenda and the entire official selection on the map. The platform is live at festival.ilove.productions and ready for any edition the studio attends or organises.
