SIGNAL
An AI, tech and cinema magazine in French, English and Spanish that writes itself three times a day: sourced stories, art-directed covers, reading times and a newsletter — edited by humans, produced by machines.
SIGNAL is a daily magazine on artificial intelligence, technology and cinema — the three subjects the studio lives on. It publishes three times a day in three languages, and most of the newsroom is software.
How it works
- Sourcing — a pipeline watches the news, picks what matters for the three sections, and keeps the sources.
- Writing — each story is written long-form with a calibrated editorial voice, then translated into French, English and Spanish as true alternates, not machine copies.
- Covers — every article gets an art-directed cover generated for it, in the magazine's visual language.
- Publication — three slots a day; every piece keeps its original date, its sources, its tags and a computed reading time.
- Editing — editors review, rewrite or unpublish from the studio's dashboard, with a rich-text editor and AI-assisted copy.
The reader's side
A front page with the lead story and the latest pieces, one section per subject (Intelligence artificielle, Tech, Cinéma), locale-segmented URLs with hreflang alternates and per-locale sitemaps, RSS, and a newsletter.
Under the hood
Next.js with a [lang] segment, Laravel API with Horizon queues, local and hosted language models for text, image generation for covers.
In numbers
A demo week holds 27 articles — nine stories × three languages — every one with its own generated cover.
The context
The studio reads about AI, tech and cinema all day and wanted a publication of its own — without a newsroom. The question was whether a magazine could be produced by software at a quality a human editor would sign, in three languages, every day.
The build
A sourcing pipeline selects stories for three sections and keeps the sources. Each story is written long-form with a calibrated voice, translated into French, English and Spanish as proper alternates, given an art-directed generated cover, and published in one of three daily slots, with original date, tags and reading time. Editors review everything from the dashboard. The site is a Next.js front with a language segment, hreflang alternates, per-locale sitemaps, RSS and a newsletter, on the studio's Laravel API and Horizon queues.
The results
SIGNAL publishes three stories a day in three languages at signal.ilove.productions. A demo week shows 27 articles — nine stories, each in French, English and Spanish — every one with its own cover. The production cost of an issue is a few minutes of editor time.
