A swipe game dressed as a football news site: real legends and AI-invented players, real archive dispatches and plausible fakes — you decide what is true, the leaderboard remembers.
FootiX looks like a football news site and plays like a card game. Every card is a footballer: Platini at Juventus, a Greek midfielder from the 80s you have never heard of, a Bundesliga goalkeeper with a perfect career. Some are real. Some were invented by an AI — name, club, dates and a portrait that looks like a press photo. Swipe right if it is true, left if it is not.
What it does
- The game — one card at a time, a verdict after each swipe with the explanation, the score delta, the current streak and your accuracy. Scores never drop below zero; streaks are rewarded.
- Real and fake players — a deck of real legends with real photographs and AI-generated players with AI-generated portraits that pass for real, unlabelled in the catalogue.
- Brèves — the same game with press dispatches: genuine archive items from 1950 to today and plausible fakes. À toi de débusquer la fiction.
- Leaderboard — anonymous play by default; an optional magic-link sign-in merges your anonymous history into a permanent account.
- The parody site — live ticker, « mercato », Ligue 1, Champions League, legends: the full dressing of a sports daily around the game.
Under the hood
Next.js PWA, Laravel API, portraits generated with image models and served from object storage, GPT for the fake biographies and the explanations.

A demo instance has 49 players and 3 531 swipes on the leaderboard, a catalogue of 60 footballers — half real, half invented — and 15 press items to sort.
The context
Everyone thinks they know football. We wanted a game that tests it with a twist: AI can now invent a footballer — career, club, face — that looks exactly like a real one. The parody of a sports news site is the stage; the swipe is the test.
The build
A deck of real legends with real photographs and AI-invented players with generated portraits that pass for press photos, mixed and unlabelled. One card at a time, a verdict with explanation, score delta, streak and accuracy. A second mode does the same with press dispatches, real archive items against plausible fakes. Anonymous play by default with localStorage identity; an optional magic link merges history into an account and the leaderboard. Around it, the dressing of a sports daily: live ticker, mercato, Ligue 1, legends. Next.js PWA on the studio's Laravel API.
The results
FootiX is live at footix.ai. A demo instance counts 49 players and 3 531 swipes on the leaderboard, with accuracy rates from 48 % to 91 % — the fakes work. The catalogue holds 60 footballers and 15 press items, and the game is as quick to start as a single tap.
